CHILDRENS CLASS. A younger student would stay with this class until Brown belt or 11 years of age (depends on the individual student). This class is kept on the tried and tested formula of Basic, Kata & Kihon, which appears to work. They are divided into sections for the whole lesson e.g. new students and white belts, 9th Kyu's and Red Belts. Yellow belts to 4th Kyu. All Brown belt grades. This does vary to suit the number of students training. We are proud at 'The Sneyd' to have produced many ASKA Regional and National Champions for this Class. Unlike the Adult class the junior class grades every six months .
BEGINNERS CLASS The beginners class caters for the needs of the 'Raw Recruit'. After the warm up period the class sticks rigidly to a wholesome diet of BASICS, KATA and KIHON. With a 4 month gap between gradings there is more than enough work to do, without allowing ourselves to get side tracked into to the weird and wonderful !!! With this strict regime they learn the necessary skills and etiquette to enable them to progress into the advanced class. Another feature of the beginners class is that in-keeping with the finest Karate tradition the class usually over runs by 10 mins!! The class 'should' be of an hours duration .
ADVANCED CLASS The advanced class looks after the needs of 'Junior' grades through to 'Black Belts'. There is no set format from lesson to lesson at 'The Sneyd'. The instructors 'man manage' the needs of the class as and when its needed. Basics are practised from the single technique through to multiple combinations (depending on grade). It is generally the case that by the time a student is promoted to the advanced class he/she would have a knowledge of 4 Kihons for Jodan, Chudan and Mae Geri. However Kihons still remain a fundamental part of the classes training. The class works on building on the basic knowledge of Kihon, to more skilful techniques. These would include Kihons for both Mawashi Geri and Yoko Geri. Juyi ippon is practised regularly, the first level of this being Jodan, Chudan and Mae Geri. The rest of the 'Juyi syllabus' is also practised for the benefit of Senior grades. A wide variety of Katas are practised, with the 'Heian' Katas being the 'bread and butter' of the whole class (even for Black Belts!!). Kumite is taught and it is considered by our instructors that we should 'spar' most lessons. However unfortunately sometimes there just isn't enough time. We also practise a large amount of self defence, sweeping and general 'character building' drills!!!! This class would be graded every four months.
