The kid’s annual competition, with all but one of the children from the kid’s class taking part and with lots of parents and relatives in attendance, the hall had a great air of anticipation and atmosphere about it. Many of the children also set personal bests and not all of them have been mentioned in this report but should be very proud of their achievements, here is the tale of just a few… As usual the competition started with the beginners but this year saw for the first time younger children from the tigers class taking part, first up we had best friends Cameron Palmer and Jake Froggatt going head to head despite their youth and inexperience they started the competition of in fine style with Cameron coming out on top by the odd flag, and that was typical of all the rounds in this section, Daniel Beighton was the eventual winner not bad for someone with only ten weeks of training under his belt. The novice section also proved to be interesting with lots of inexperience but still good solid Kata’s and lots of determination, in this group the only person with previous competition experience was Joe Drakeley and this coupled with his desire to win must have helped Joe to go on and win the category without dropping a single flag. The intermediates were next, so could Kyle Randall repeat last year and come out on top again, Kyle met some tough opposition on the way but still managed to be victorious despite their best efforts. In the senior section the kata’s cranked-up a notch and we witnessed quality displays, at the end of all this saw Henna Bains crowned as senior champion. The champion’s league is made up from all the days’ champions and runners-up and competition winners throughout the year. So its down to the luck of the draw and this gives the lower grade a chance to take a pop at the black belts, young Joe Drakeley gave it a good go against defending champion Jack Mason, but Jack had too much this time for Joe, and then it was Kyle Randall’s turn to try his luck against Jack, but Jack wasn’t to be denied his place in the final. In the lower section of the draw again pitted Nikki Dinsdale against Henna Bains a repeat of the seniors final but this time Nikki came out victorious and went on to the semi-final to meet James Gilruth trying to make his second final of the day, but Nikki went on to make it and all black belt final, so could Nikki become only the second girl to win the samurai trophy or would it be Jack trying to win for the second year running, once again Jack produced a typical blood and thunder Bassai Dai and regain his title…..Well done Jack and all the competitors, spectators and officials for putting on another quality competition not to be forgotten.

SNEYD KARATE CLUB
Kids Competition 2008
On Saturday the 5th of April, Sneyd Karate club once again proudly held our kids kata competition. After a break of a couple of years it was great to see it back and with pride, quality and determination on show...... it did not disappoint. Firstly we had the novices - the competition was fierce and the kids proved that all their hard work in the classes was paying off. To prove that point we had (Jack) Russell Stanton verses Kyle Randall in the final, in which we saw Kyle come out on top on this occasion. Then it was the turn of the intermediates - a fascinating tussle saw each of them beat each other so they had to do it all over again and eventually Chris Broadhurst took the honours. Up next the seniors and the stakes were even higher with quality displays on show seeing Nikki Dinsdale as the winner. Finally we came to the champions league the winners and runners up along with previous competition winners. As they prepared to do battle, nervous kids and nervous parents looked on as sisters Henna and Jayna Bains faced each other. After Jayna’s display older sister Henna responded magnificently producing her best routine of the day. Finally we got to the final ...... Henna Bains versus Jack Mason. Jack was trying to follow in older brother Karl’s footsteps and win the beautiful samurai trophy and with a typical blood and thunder kata he duly delivered. Well done Jack and all of the kids, you did yourselves proud. Also a special award was given to Matthew Ellis for achieving 100% attendance for a whole year ..... well done Matthew you are an example for us all to follow.
